One Moore Election Shenanigan Detail

Just when I think we know all there is to know about the election shenanigans of the Navigation District, another chapter makes itself known.  On August 26th, the last day to file for a position on the ballot as far as anyone outside the District knew, Rebecca Johnson was preparing to leave early at 2 p.m. from her job with Calhoun County ISD.  The deadline on the notice to file stated the time of 4 p.m.  Rebecca called the District office to find out if there was a fee for filing.  She was told that the deadline to file for a place on the ballot had already expired.  She argued that the deadline posted online indicated August 26th and that she was on her way to file.

When she arrived at the office, she argued that the deadline posted was August 26th, but was told her application for a place on the ballot would not be accepted and that they only way she could file was as a write in candidate.  Only the office clerical staff was present and stated they were waiting on guidance from the County Election Administrator.  Then she was told that another person had filed only 30 minutes before her as a write-in candidate and how unprecedented it was to have late filers.  Apparently that was offered as proof that others knew of the deadline change.   The District's internet posting of the deadline still today indicates August 26th.  The District website was and is the ONLY place that contained election information.

And now for the hook – the person who filed just before Rebecca is reported to be a personal friend of Tommy Moore as it turns out.  He also happens to be a boat tenant at Rockport Harbor.  While I shouldn’t be surprised, I am.  The District has done this at least twice before in previous elections, running an employee or another candidate to split votes at the last minute to dilute the challenger vote.  Apparently, Tommy Moore cannot run a straight up election campaign.  I’m not saying that someone called the friend of Tommy Moore to let him know that another person was on her way to file, but if it walks like a duck…….

It is time for Mr. Moore to be put on a shelf, to go away, to disappear, to __________.  Fill in the blank with your personal choice.  Please consider voting for Rebecca Johnson, the Write-in candidate for the At Large Position on the Navigation District Board.  We can’t stand any moore of this *%#@.
