One Moore Election Shenanigan Detail

Just when I think we know all there is to know about the election shenanigans of the Navigation District, another chapter makes itself known.   On August 26 th , the last day to file for a position on the ballot as far as anyone outside the District knew, Rebecca Johnson was preparing to leave early at 2 p.m. from her job with Calhoun County ISD.   The deadline on the notice to file stated the time of 4 p.m.   Rebecca called the District office to find out if there was a fee for filing.   She was told that the deadline to file for a place on the ballot had already expired.   She argued that the deadline posted online indicated August 26 th and that she was on her way to file.   When she arrived at the office, she argued that the deadline posted was August 26 th , but was told her application for a place on the ballot would not be accepted and that they only way she could file was as a write in candidate.   Only the office clerical staff was...

Reflections on Rebecca Johnson

I met Rebecca some time ago. She is an educator, wife, mother, and community member with a vested interest in the success of our community for future generations.   Rebecca is a highly educated individual. She has an Associate in Arts degree in Business Administration from Del Mar College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Communications from Pace University, and a Master's degree in Instructional Technology from Texas A&M Texarkana. She has been involved in property management and real estate sales.   She has been a YMCA Committee Member and has chaired the Town of Fulton Planning and Zoning Board. She wants to serve as the next Aransas County Navigation District At Large Commissioner to provide strong leadership to make a difference in our community. She wants to use her knowledge and experience to help achieve our common goals. Among her goals, she wants to change meeting times to evenings to allow for greater citizen participation in Di...

Long Nguyen, A reflection on His History and Desires for Aransas County

I first met Long Nguyen in 1996 when he laid the foundation for our Rockport home. Long is a quiet man, not too much for talking. He is more about doing. Our job was one of three he was working on at the same time. He has poured every slab foundation that Richard Dias of Dias Construction has required for over 30 years. Long found Rockport in the early 1970’s after his family fled Vietnam. Even as a middle school student, he was always working – working in the fishing and shrimping industry. Those experiences led him to own the Fulton Harbor Bait Stand right on the Fulton Marina. After graduating from Rockport Fulton High School, he began working for his future Father-in-law’s concrete company, Salazar Concrete Works.   He is a proud family man. He and his wife Nelda have four adult children and five grandchildren and all still live in Aransas County. They are members and supporters of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. As the head of Salazar Concrete Works, he has never miss...

Falsified Election Documents and Puppet Strings

Moore (sic) on Falsified Election Documents and Alleged Pollution of Little Bay by the City Wastewater Treatment Plant   This is a fresh look at Tommy Moore’s Election Deadline document of June 23. I recently received some unsolicited advice from a friend who read “Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave”. I am surprised I did not realize this before now. Tommy Moore FALSIFIED an official document. He falsified the Notice of Application to File for a Place on the Ballot when he dated the expiration date as August 26th.   It does not matter whether or not he did so on purpose in the eyes of the law; just as it does not matter that a driver did not see the lowered speed limit sign. Further, if he had just left the date as August 26 th , nothing would have happened.   The ballot would still have been produced and all interested candidates would have been included if they filed by that date.   Nothing would have been compromised. The election would still have occurr...

RULES, WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING RULES!

October 3 rd , I addressed the Navigation District over its handling of the Application for a Place on the Ballot deadline by Tommy Moore and Keith Barrett.   My presentation covered nearly 2 pages.   At 3 minutes, Chairman Dieckow told me time was up and held up his phone as evidence of having timed me.   I was nowhere near finished and told him so.   He said I had used my 3 minutes and told me to wrap it up quickly.   A few seconds later, he cut me off again.   Since the meat of my presentation concerned Tommy who was absent, I chose a break point and sat down.   I would take it back up at the meeting on the 17 th .   A few days after that meeting, I acquired the Navigation District’s RULES OF PROCEDURE, CONDUCT AND DECORUM.   Article IV, Public Participation in Meetings, Section 2 reads: Each member of the public who appears before the Commission shall be limited to five (5) minutes to make his or her remarks.   When called...

Third Request for Public Information

THIRD REQUEST FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION DOCUMENTS   PLEASE READ THROUGH TO THE BOTTOM FOR THIS MORNING’S COMMENTS TO THE NAV DISTRICT I have turned in 2 Public Information Act (PIA) requests to this body seeking the same information and your attorney continues to play word games; the only reasonable explanation of which is because he and this body doesn’t want the truth to get out of what lies with what I am asking.   Twice you have interpreted my request as a meeting of the navigation and canal commission and provided me with a word for word exact same response the second time.   You could interpret it as a meeting of the Joint Chiefs of Staff but that doesn’t make it so.   I was specific with the second request but apparently you desire a different level of specificity. I am requesting the PIA information in the name listed 3 times on your website face page, the Aransas County Navigation District. I am requesting the PIA information in the name listed...

Navigation District Report Card

Aransas County Navigation District Report Card   Two District Commissioners are up for re-election on November 8. The voters should consider the following report card on the District before they cast their votes. Compliance with the Texas Open Meetings and Open Records Laws – Grade F Every District Monday meeting held since Hurricane Harvey has been illegal because the District has not properly posted its meetings in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act requirements.  They were told of this non-compliance in January 2022 and did nothing to correct it. The District has not posted any minutes of its meeting on the District website since May 2021 The District does not produce monthly financial reports for public review even after an FOIA request made in February 2022 The District does not compare actual results to budget projections at any time during the fiscal year even though that is a requirement for entities that have an Annual Audit. Compliance...

How to Screw Both the Would-be Candidates and the Voting Public

Image
This is the latest post about the Navigation District.  A previous post touched on the District's messing with election dates.  The attachments are the District's response to my Open Records Request, later changed to a Public Information Act request.  Saturday's PILOT carried a letter from Tommy Moore that prompted me to complete this blog.  It is quite long and for that I apologize, but it is very important.  This should make your blood boil.  Also know that I am endorsing Rebecca Johnson as a Write-in Candidate for Tommy Moore's seat.  I pray that after reading this latest narrative that you will consider voting for her also.  This is what I will read to the District tomorrow morning. O-P-E-N   G-O-V-E-R-N-M-E-N-T spells Open Government.     I like playing word games when doing so for fun.   I detest playing them when I ask a serious question and am answered with a word game.   Your letter acknowledged that the Aransas...
